Live-in carer job description

Live-in carers live in a client’s own home. Depending on your work availability, this could be anything from two weeks up to and beyond ten weeks at a time. Our clients choose live-in care as an alternative to other care solutions, such as care homes, to support their health needs and emotional well-being. No two days are alike and our home care is tailored to each individual we care for.

However, you can expect to support clients with the following day-to-day activities:

  • Personal care, being discreet and sensitive to your clients’ needs
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Managing and administering medication
  • Housekeeping
  • Running errands and transportation to appointments or social events
  • Assisting with mobility in and around the home
  • Companionship and emotional support
  • Pet care
about-you

Before we start providing care, each client will be assessed by an expert care assessor. We will look at the clients’ overall care needs and listen to their choices as to how they wish to live their life. Taking the time to match our carers with clients properly, based on skills, experience, personality and shared interests.

We do not operate rotas, but do offer you placements based on your availability. Many of our carers prefer to stay with clients for longer periods of time, but placement lengths can be flexible to suit your lifestyle. Continuity of care is important to us, so we try to keep our clients and carers together for as long as is reasonably or practically possible.

What qualifications and experience do I need to work with you?

For our live-in carer jobs, you will need at least six months’ professional care experience. This does not necessarily need to be as a live-in carer; you might have worked as a domiciliary carer, support worker in a residential care home, as a healthcare assistant in the NHS or in a similar care related role. Your hands-on experience will include supporting clients with their personal care, as well as supporting people living with conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s.

It’s important that you share our passion for enabling people to have a choice about where, when and how they have care. You’ll have a focus on promoting independence and choice through person-centred care. All of our carers are recruited to align with our core values – the five Cs – Choice, Comfort, Companionship, Continuity and Care.

If you’d like to speak to our team about working with us, book an appointment with a recruiter here. Or apply now with our virtual recruitment assistant Max. Simply click on the Max icon in the bottom right hand corner.

Please note: we are not able to assist with any sponsorship or visa applications. You must already have the right to work in the UK before you can apply to work with us. For more information on working in the UK visit Gov.uk.

Live-in carer training opportunities

We want you to excel in your role and we know this can only be achieved if you are equipped with the skills, knowledge and support required to be an exceptional live-in carer. We have a blended approach to learning, involving face-to-face training, online learning, coaching and mentoring.

Cherished Home Care is part of a family of home care brands. Together with The Good Care Group and Oxford Aunts, we are committed to the professional development of our teams. We’re proud that a number of the central operations team and care managers first joined our teams as professional carers. Your training and development needs will form an important part of your regular one-to-ones with your care manager.

All of our carers attend an induction course in London. Whilst you might have already completed a course with another organisation, this is designed to give you a great introduction to Cherished Home Care, our clients and our systems. Find out more about our training.
