How much does live-in care cost in the UK?

The cost of live-in care varies depending on several factors, such as the level of care required, the location, and the choice of care provider. It is important to note that these fees can vary significantly among different providers.

At Cherished Home Care, our care managers will visit your home to carry out an assessment. This assessment will also consider your choices, preferences and social requirements as well as your needs, ensuring that you can have a good quality of life surrounded by the familiar surroundings of home. Based on the results of this assessment, we will create a customised live-in care package tailored specifically to your needs. We will then provide you with a personalised quote, allowing you to make an informed decision.

Live-in care costs will be charged weekly, with pricing determined by the needs outlined in your assessment. This approach provides valuable insight into the type of care required, enabling you to plan and compare with other providers should you choose live-in care.

Once the fee has been agreed upon, we will ensure that your live-in care costs remain fixed unless significant changes need to be made to the level of care you receive. It is common for costs to increase due to inflation, and this should be taken into account when making long-term decisions.

Live-in care costs vs. care home costs

Introduction agency vs. fully managed care provider

When considering the live-in care costs, weighing the differences between using an introductory agency and a fully-managed service is important. An introductory agency can organise a carer for you at an added fee, who you will employ, pay directly and manage yourself. A fully-managed service like Cherished Home Care will offer a greater level of management and service to ensure that the very best live-in care is provided.

Once you have been introduced to your carer by the introductory agency, you will pay the one-time fee, and their involvement with your care typically ends. From there, you or your loved ones will be responsible for managing schedules, handling payments to the carer, and arranging cover for sickness or holidays. Carers from an introductory agency are often self employed and won’t have the level of training that a fully-managed care provider offers.

You eliminate these concerns by opting for a fully managed service like Cherished Home Care, which is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We take full responsibility for the care we provide and offer in-house training to all our staff. This ensures high-quality care and provides peace of mind for both you and your family.

Live-in care for couples

Live-in care for couples presents a cost-effective alternative to residential care, as it eliminates additional expenses like room and board fees that are common in care homes. Furthermore, it allows continuity of relationships as couples remain together in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. This option is particularly appealing for long-term couples who have been together for many years and wish to remain close and supportive of one another.

Respite Care

A thorough assessment of your care needs determines the cost of our live-in respite care. You may require this if you have recently been discharged from the hospital or if your primary caregiver is taking a break from their caring duties. It is important to note that our respite care offers are of comparable quality to that of a care home while providing the added advantages of staying within the comfort, familiarity, and safety of your own home.

Specialist and complex medical care costs

We have a team of experts behind us, including our carers, two occupational therapists and an Admiral Nurse (dementia expert) who can provide advice and support with complex needs such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. This will all be included within your cost for care, but generally involves a higher weekly rate.
