What is personal care

Personal care for elderly individuals is tailored specifically to your needs and consists of assistance with private hygiene, living tasks, and supporting you to feel your best with dressing and maintaining your appearance. Many individuals find it difficult to receive intimate care from family members; therefore, choosing our services may be the preferred choice for many, as a personal care plan will be developed to improve your health and wellbeing at home.

Personal care examples may include:

  • Bathing and showering
  • Haircare and shaving
  • Medication administration
  • Toileting
  • Light housekeeping
  • Meal preparation
  • Seeing family and friends

What are the duties and responsibilities of a personal care assistant?

We want you to remain comfortable and confident in your own home, which is why our personal care assistants will support you with a whole host of different tasks and arrangements, including:

Bathing and Showering: Our carers will sensitively assist you with and supervise bathing and showering to ensure hygiene and safety.

Toileting and Incontinence: Assisting with toileting needs, such as helping you or your loved one to and from the bathroom, managing incontinence products, and ensuring cleanliness.

Skin Care: Regular checks of your skin to look out for signs of issues such as rashes, dryness, pressure sores, or infections. Early detection of these problems can lead to more effective treatment.

Oral Hygiene: We will ensure that your teeth and gums are kept healthy by brushing your teeth, flossing, and providing denture care.

Foot Care: If you are living with a condition that requires you to be vigilant with your feet, our home carers can support you with foot care.

Exercise and Physical Activity: Encouraging and assisting with exercises or physical therapy routines to maintain physical health and mobility.

Grooming: Our personal care assistant can support you with hair care, shaving, and applying your makeup to help you maintain your appearance and feel confident.

Nail Care: To prevent infections and ensure overall hand and foot health, our personal carer will help you to keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed and clean.

What is a personal care plan?

A personal care plan is a detailed and bespoke plan of action designed to meet your specific needs, preferences, and goals when requiring our personal care services. The outline of your care plan will be determined once you have had a complimentary home care assessment carried out by one of our care managers. This allows them to thoroughly assess your physical, emotional, social, and medical needs. Our in-house experts, consisting of a dementia expert and an occupational therapist, will also be available on an advisory basis when developing your care plan.

Personal care plans will be tailored to your schedule and routine and include, but are not limited to, your preferred times for activities, likes and dislikes regarding food, short term and long term goals for your care. This can be amended at any time and in line with any changes to your condition. Our care assistants are not here to take over but to give you the choice and flexibility to live your life the way you want.

Hourly Care

Regular care throughout the week

Our personal care service can be provided to you for as little as one hour per day, three times a week. This flexible option allows our carers to pop in at times that best suit you to provide support with hygiene, bathing, and grooming to ensure you remain healthy and confident at home.

Hourly care is a cost-effective choice that can address your preferences, well-being, and low care needs whilst incorporating a variety of tasks during each care visit.

Live-in Care

Around-the-clock care at home

Live-in care involves a personal care assistant residing in your home to provide round-the-clock support. This is suitable if you have a progressive condition such as Parkinson’s or dementia and require regular assistance. If you require specialist clinical care, our personal carers can provide this according to your needs.

In comparison to hourly care, live-in care provides continuous support, giving you and your loved ones peace of mind that you will receive personal care whenever required.

Costs of personal care

Our live-in care services are available from £1,445 per week, and our hourly care starts from £29 per hour. A detailed estimate of the cost will be provided once you receive your free home care assessment, conducted by one of our local care managers.

As a thank you, the start up fee will be refunded back to you after using our services for at least 4 weeks.

For couples, live-in care has proven to be the more financially prudent choice compared to care homes and, in some cases, domiciliary care. This is because a modest additional fee is applied for the second individual, rather than paying for two separate rooms in a residential care facility.
